Nadia Farahani

Born in a multi-cultural family – Italian and Iranian – I have learnt the beauty of diversity and cross-cultural dialogue since I was very young. Growing up I have learnt to build a solid bridge between East and West. I started practising Yoga when I was 16 years old in 2006 and since then dedicated myself to the study of the Self and to spiritual research through oriental disciplines. In university, I studied languages and cultures of the Indian subcontinent with particular interest toward women's studies.

As a Yogini, I completed the Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training in 2013-16 with Christian Pisano and June Whittaker in the Institut de Yoga Iyengar de Nice, France.

In early 2015 I studied with the Iyengar family in Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute of Pune, India. Back from Pune, I could particularly interiorise postural alignment, the use of props and the benefits of pranayama after a severe car accident that totally changed my life and practice in June 2015. In 2017 I read “L'Art Subversif et Sacré du Yoga, Reveiller la Force Vive du ventre” and in 2018 I finally met Martine Le Chenic who's totally inspired my recent yoga practice and teaching giving me a gentle key to transform my previous physical “limitations” into a true yogic liberation.

I have studied and practised Ayurveda since 2009 in Italy with Dr. Antonio Morandi and Carmen Tosto from Ayurvedic Point and in India with the Ashtavaidyan Nambi-Mooss family in SNA Oushadhasala Thaikat Mooss in Thrissur, Kerala. I have also participated to many training workshops and conferences in Europe and India and keep on being inspired by my daily life and my patients.

Since 2017 I have also studied Jyotish, Vedic Astrology, under the guidance of Vaidya Atreya Smith, European Institute of Vedic Studies.  Jyotish broadens the horizons for understanding Life. We are immersed into an immense magnetic field where the protagonists are many, not only us but also much bigger beings like stars and planets, Graha. Jyotish helps us understanding our relationship with the Universe, teaches us to be active part of the cosmic dance that constantly happens in front of our eyes.

The study of Yoga, Ayurveda, Astrology and other healing techniques allows me to find harmony and health in my own SADHANA. I do research in physical and mental aspects of life from a THERPEUTIC point of view, in order to adapt one’s own practice to one’s own Prakrti (individual Nature) and Vikrti (altered individual Nature or unbalance). All aspects of life become inspiring and useful for designing your own practice - time of the day, season, climate, age, gender, menstruation, pregnancy, menopause, aging process, sickness, illnesses, health, pain, etc. Acknowledging this, VINYOGA – the adaptation of the practice according to personal conditions – can be fully understood and put into practice. There are as many possible Yoga Sadhanas as many human beings, days of the year, moments of the day, body-mind combinations exist.

Thanks to Christian Pisano and June Whittaker in 2013 I met Non-dual Kashmiri Shivaism and Tantra. Soon I became fond of two Indian philosophy “schools”, SHATKA TANTRA, ancient Tantra dedicated to “Shakti” divine feminine force (the Goddess), and ADVAITA, non-dual explanation of Life and Consciousness. I am now directing my spiritual seeking to heal the feminine-masculine duality from the energetic and material unbalances occurring today. Starting from myself and my personal experience, I aim at improving and balancing women’s conditions in a body-mind-spirit oriented perspective.

In 2016, I met Sri Aurobindo’s and Mère’s teachings in Pondicherry and Auroville, India. Since then I have colored my spiritual research with the tones of INTEGRAL YOGA. According to Sri Aurobindo and Mère, Sadhana is not only physical practice but also Work, Meditation, Love and Devotion. Since 2017 I have dedicated time to do research and voluntary work in Auroville trying to unify and share all my spiritual teachings learnt and interiorised through the years. Trying to offer service to Human Unity, one of Auroville International Township’s principles.
